Q: Can I purchase Chestnuts in bulk from Allen Creek Farm?
A: Please contact us by phone or email to discuss orders over 25lbs.
Q: How do you measure a nut?
A: Our nuts are all sorted by size in our sorter. It has holes that are
1″, 1.125″, 1.25″ and 1.5″. The drum rotates and the nuts flow slowly
through, falling through the hole they can fit through.
Q: Why don’t you ship fresh nuts as soon as you receive my order?
A: Because Chestnuts are perishable we ship on Mondays, Tuesdays and
Wednesdays. That way they that they’re never in transit more than three
days. Your order will be shipped on the next available shipping day (i.e.
orders placed Wednesday through Sunday will ship on Monday). We are not
responsible for orders which arrive late due to issues with transit,
weather, or lost packages.
Q: Can I come out to the farm and pick up my nuts?
A: Local pickup may be available by appointment only, please call to
discuss.
Q: Why do you use USPS Priority Mail?
A: Priority mail is the most economical for you, and the most reliable way
to ship as it provides you with tracking information for your order.
We ship using USPS priority flat rate boxes for up to 15 pounds, and
utilize weight-based shipping for orders over 20 pounds. A shipping
calculator is available for your convenience when choosing a shipping
option.
Q: Why did the sticker on my package say “Refrigerate upon arrival.”?
A: This sticker is a reminder that fresh chestnuts are perishable and need
to be refrigerated.
Q: Why can’t I buy fresh chestnuts all year long?
A: Chestnuts, which harvest in the fall, are perishable and only last
about 3 weeks unless kept in controlled atmosphere.
Q: Can I eat dried chestnuts like peanuts or walnuts?
A: If you want to break a tooth! Dried chestnuts are rock hard, but when
you rehydrate them you can use them in any recipe where cooked nuts are
required, and the good news is that you don’t have to peel them and they
can last at least a year.
